Green Flags in Sicily: the list of award-winning beaches

Whilst the Blue Flags have always recognised the best-equipped and cleanest beaches, offering comfort and entertainment, the Green Flags are the main accolade for ‘child-friendly’ beaches, selected according to specific criteria identified by a team of around 3,200 Italian and international paediatricians who take part in the initiative on a voluntary basis: shallow, safe waters; ample space between sun umbrellas; play facilities; restaurants with ‘children’s menus’; and, above all, the presence of lifeguards.
Here is the complete list of the 24 Sicilian municipalities boasting Green Flag beaches, with Marina di Modica as the new entry for 2026:
- Province of Agrigento: Lampedusa and Menfi
- Province of Catania: Catania (Playa), Calatabiano, Cottone
- Province of Messina: Messina (Canneto), Giardini Naxos, Aeolian Islands (Lipari, Vulcano)
- Province of Palermo: Palermo (Mondello), Balestrate and Cefalù
- Province of Ragusa: Marina di Ragusa, Ispica, Modica, Pozzallo, Santa Croce Camerina, Scicli, Vittoria
- Province of Syracuse: Noto
- Province of Trapani: Campobello di Mazara, Favignana, Marsala, Mazara del Vallo, San Vito Lo Capo.
