Sicily Sea for All

Sicily welcomes visitors with the warmth of its people, the flavors that tell ancient stories, and the deep blue of its sea, today increasingly open and inclusive.
Thanks to the “Sicilia Mare per Tutti” project, coordinated by the Sicilia Turismo per Tutti Association with the support of the Sicilian Region, the island has turned seaside tourism into a barrier-free experience.

In 2014 there were just over ten accessible beaches. Today there are 212 – 97 public and 115 private – equipped with walkways to the shoreline, amphibious chairs, dedicated restrooms, assistance and solutions for motor, sensory or cognitive needs. A progress that reflects the island’s growing commitment.

An island for everyone

From east to west, every Sicilian coast offers a safe and enjoyable sea. On the eastern coast, between the cliffs of Plemmirio and the long beaches of Fontane Bianche, walkways and facilities ensure easy access; in the south, from the sandy stretches of Marina di Ragusa to the waters of Pozzallo, golden beaches are equipped with eco-friendly walkways and assisted bathing; on the Tyrrhenian and western coasts, beyond basic services, destinations like San Vito Lo Capo offer activities such as guided snorkeling, adapted kayaking and diving for those with special needs.

Services and inclusion

Many facilities provide tactile maps, signage in AAC, videos in Italian Sign Language (LIS) and tactile walkways for independent orientation. Spaces are designed to facilitate movement, with accessible cabins and services, Solemar chairs to enter the water, shaded areas and reserved parking. In places like Mondello or Giardini Naxos, staff are trained to support guests with motor or sensory disabilities.

A constant commitment

Accessibility grows thanks to concrete measures and a new culture of hospitality. Staff training, digital technologies and inclusive communication make Sicily a model to follow.
