Discover Eastern Sicily on an exciting bike journey, through breathtaking landscapes, historic villages, and natural wonders. The tour begins in Catania, with its baroque architecture and the iconic lava stone elephant in Piazza del Duomo. Continue along the coast to Aci Castello, dominated by its Norman castle perched on a lava stone cliff, and Aci Trezza, famous for the Cyclopean Isles, the legendary home of Polyphemus.
The next stop is Taormina, the pearl of the Mediterranean, with its majestic Greek Theatre and unique panoramas. From here, head to Piedimonte Etneo, along the Wine Route of Etna, exploring the charm of Europe’s highest volcano. The route continues through Linguaglossa and the striking lava flows to Randazzo, a medieval village with buildings made of lava stone and the beautiful Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta.
Crossing unique landscapes between Mount Etna and the Nebrodi Mountains, you’ll reach Bronte, famous for its prized pistachio nuts. The path continues to the Saracens’ Bridge and Centuripe, known as the “balcony of Sicily” for its panoramic views. The journey then heads toward Ramacca and will temporarily end in Caltagirone, famous for its ceramics and the spectacular Santa Maria del Monte Staircase, adorned with colorful majolica tiles.
After passing through Grammichele and Vizzini, you’ll arrive at Monterosso Almo, nestled between the Iblei Mountains. From here, descend to Ragusa Ibla, a gem of Sicilian baroque, and continue on to Modica, renowned not only for its baroque churches but also for its famous cold-processed chocolate. The journey continues to Scicli, the filming location for many scenes from Il Commissario Montalbano, before heading to Pozzallo and its golden beaches.
The final part of the tour visits Marzamemi, a picturesque fishing village, and the Vendicari Nature Reserve, a sanctuary for flamingos and herons. From there, head to Noto, the baroque capital, with its magnificent churches and noble palaces. After passing through Avola and the Gelsomineto Beach, the journey reaches Ortigia, the historic heart of Syracuse, to conclude the trip with visits to the Duomo, the Temple of Apollo, and the enchanting Aretusa Fountain.
Finally, the tour closes with a return to Catania, passing through the Nature Reserves of the Saline di Priolo and the mouth of the Simeto River, for a last immersion in Sicily’s nature.
