San Vito Lo Capo – Wreck of the Amphoras

Detail

Capo San Vito, with its iconic lighthouse, offers breathtaking scenery on a rocky promontory exposed to the winds. The area is rich in history, with ancient caves such as Grotta del Cavallo and Cala Mancina, dating back to the Palaeolithic period.

The village of San Vito Lo Capo, protected from the currents, lies on the eastern side. This land has a long history of shipwrecks, evidenced by archaeological finds, with a documented presence since Norman times. The area was also frequented for the extraction of garum, a prized fish sauce, giving San Vito Lo Capo a unique charm in the historical panorama of Sicily.
