Ustica – Itinerary of Punta Falconiera

Detail

Discover the archaeological itinerary in the heart of the Northern Sicily Marine Reserve, near the picturesque port of Cala Santa Maria. The route runs at the foot of the majestic cliff of Punta della Falconiera, in an area rich in history and mystery.

The itinerary, spread over an area of about 500 square metres, is a veritable treasure trove of ancient artefacts, with each discovery within easy reach of the next. Immerse yourself in an underwater world where history and nature come together in a unique experience.

From the earliest ceramic fragments and an iron anchor with heavily concreted marlas, to the impressive net trapped between the rocks that creates a scenic atmosphere. A mobile lead anchor log from the classical period and a counter anchor from the Roman period are tangible evidence of ancient voyages and trade.

Finally, below the rocky face, you will find the imposing Byzantine anchor with two curved flukes, a final testimony to a past rich in history and adventure.
