The Mangalaviti Forest

Detail

The Mangalaviti Forest, located in the heart of the Nebrodi Park, in the territory of Caronia (Messina), is one of the most spectacular and best-preserved green lungs in Sicily. Stretching between 1,200 and 1,500 metres above sea level, it represents an ecosystem of extraordinary biodiversity, where nature reigns supreme.

The forest is made up mostly of centuries-old beech trees, among the largest on the island, interspersed with maples, ash trees, holly, and wild apple trees. During the wetter seasons, the undergrowth comes alive with mushrooms, ferns, and mosses, creating a fairy-tale atmosphere. Clear streams and small waterfalls accompany the path, making the landscape vibrant and full of sound.

Walking or riding on horseback among these monumental trees means immersing yourself in a world suspended in time, where the air smells of wood and resin, and light filters through the leaves like in a natural cathedral. The Mangalaviti Forest is also a refuge for many animal species, including the Nebrodi black pig, wildcat, golden eagle, and red kite, symbols of Sicily’s mountain wildlife.

An unmissable stop for those who love unspoiled nature and wish to discover the alpine side of Sicily, far from traditional tourist routes.
