Etna Wine Route
Detail
The Etna Wine Route invites you to discover the Etna region through two wine tourism experiences that combine volcanic landscapes, local traditions and tastings of the region’s finest wines. Amidst vineyards, historic villages and views stretching from the mountains to the sea, visitors can choose between the picturesque Etna Wine Train and the convenient Etna Wine Bus, two itineraries designed to experience Europe’s highest volcano through its flavours and wineries.
The Etna Wine Train, available until 28 November 2026, offers a journey aboard the historic Circumetnea Railway along the slopes of the volcano. The tour departs from Linguaglossa station and combines the charm of the train with travel on the Wine Bus, taking participants on a journey of discovery to two wineries and a historic village between Castiglione di Sicilia and Randazzo. The experience includes tastings of Etna DOC wines accompanied by typical local produce, an introduction to the area led by specialist guides, and views that alternate between vineyards, lava flows and glimpses of the sea. Departures are scheduled every Thursday and Saturday from March to November.
The Etna Wine Bus, running until 20 December 2026, offers a daily itinerary departing from the centre of Catania. The route crosses the Riviera dei Ciclopi and climbs the south-eastern slope of Etna, through heroic vineyards and olive groves, with stops at two local estates where visitors can tour cellars and oil mills and taste Etna DOC wines paired with local gastronomic specialities. Accompanied by an expert guide, participants discover the history, nature and food and wine culture of the volcano in an experience that combines the sea, the mountains and Sicilian traditions. The service is available every Wednesday and Sunday from April to December, with departures from Piazza Scammacca, Piazza Stesicoro or Catania Central Station.
