Young Sherlock in Palermo: the series’ filming locations

What is Young Sherlock doing in Palermo, and what are the series’ filming locations? Naturally, they include some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, which from today we’ll all be visiting with a keener eye, on the lookout for details and views linked to the hit TV series: from Piazza Bellini to the Church of Santa Maria dell’Ammiraglio, via Piazza Marina and Piazza Verdi.

Among the highlights of the filming (which took place between May and June 2026) is the episode centred on the magnificent Palermo Cathedral, a key stop on the UNESCO World Heritage site ‘Arab-Norman Palermo and the Cathedrals of Cefalù and Monreale’: here, amidst the light and shadow of the tombs of the Swabian royals and the evocative Chapel of Santa Rosalia, patron saint of the city, the sharp-witted Sherlock Holmes is grappling with a case worthy of a true period mystery, with scenes also filmed along Via Matteo Bonello and in Piazza Sett’Angeli. Without giving too much away, we can reveal that the grand finale takes place entirely on the monumental staircase of the Teatro Massimo.

Whilst during filming the people of Palermo may have found themselves rubbing shoulders with international actors of the calibre of Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Colin Firth, for those visiting the city and the filming locations today, it will be easy to immerse themselves in the magical nineteenth-century atmosphere, steeped in mysteries and cases bordering on the unreal, all brilliantly solved: all it takes is a stroll through Palermo’s historic centre to feel as though you’re in a film – as Holmes would say to his assistant: “Elementary, my dear Watson!”.
