This archeological site lies not far from Siracusa , on a cliff overhanging the gorges of Anapo river.  Beside being rich in history, it is a natural reserve and taking a bath in its fresh waters represents a unique opportunity for canyoning lovers.

Much earlier than greek colonization, the south – eastern of Sicily was inhabitated, both sea side and rocky mountains, from different settlements. Evidences can be visited at those imponents archeological sites and the Pantalica Necropoli with its artificial caves. It is quite possible to date human beings presence around 70.000 years ago, with Homo Sapiens and Neanderthal settled there.

During the classical Greek period cities were not born yet, iron was still unfamiliar and bronze was the only technological innovation. .

The era offers Omero’s Iliade and Odissea heroes, when it was the Miceneo era and its  population, represented by the legendary Agamennone, to surf the seas looking for new commercial ports. And Pantalica reaches its best power. *

The scenographic necropolis, about 5000 tombs caved in the natural rocks and the Anaktoron (Palazzo del Principe), located  on the top of the hill, recalling the Micenei buildings magnificence,  are dated around this period.
