Historic Trains in Sicily

After the great success of the previous editions, the historic trains of the Foundation of the State Railways return to Sicily for the sixth year. The year 2024 will be characterised by a rich programme that, until next December, will make it possible to reach the most beautiful places on the island by vintage train.

The 2024 historic train programme in Sicily includes 33 appointments and will start on Saturday 14 September and end on Sunday 8 December.

Among the planned destinations:

• Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples Archaeological Park
• Santo Stefano di Camastra and Caltagirone with a tour to discover the ceramics
• Syracuse and the historical centre of ancient Ortigia
• Castelvetrano and the majestic Selinunte Archaeological Park
• Baroque Modica for the annual chocolate festival

The legendary ‘terraced’ carriages of the 1930s have been brought back to the island as a tourist attraction to offer visitors the wonder of an authentic journey through time. From the characteristic terraces and windows of these ancient carriages, the travel experience is even more authentic, allowing tourists to fully immerse themselves in the scents and colours of this beautiful land. For cycling enthusiasts, a luggage car with a special rack is available, capable of transporting up to 50 bicycles.

Departures will be from Palermo, Messina and Catania. As in past editions, there will be a collaboration with the Ferrovia Circumetnea to reach the centre of Bronte from Giarre, with transfer from the historical train to the FCE railcars.

Tickets for travel on board the historic trains can be purchased on all Trenitalia sales channels and directly on board the train while seats last.
