Giorgio de Chirico. The Sun of Metaphysical Art
Detail
From 18 May to 1 November 2026, the MACC – Carmine Museum of Contemporary Art in Scicli is hosting the exhibition “Giorgio de Chirico. The Sun of Metaphysics”, dedicated to one of the greatest figures in 20th-century art. Organised by the Sikarte association in collaboration with the Municipality of Scicli, the exhibition is curated by Lorenzo Canova, a member of the scientific council of the Giorgio de Chirico Foundation.
Housed in the museum’s spaces in Piazza Busacca, the exhibition offers a journey through some fifty works by the master of Metaphysical Art, set in dialogue with photographs by Giovanni Chiaramonte, Giuseppe Leone, Pino Ninfa and Armando Rotoletti. The project explores the deep connection between de Chirico’s imagery and Sicily, between references to Magna Graecia, sun-drenched squares, Baroque architecture and suspended atmospheres that evoke the landscape of the Val di Noto.
The photographs accompany the visitor on a journey between reality and vision, evoking that sense of mystery, silence and Mediterranean light that pervades de Chirico’s work. The exhibition represents an important opportunity to rediscover the dialogue between contemporary art and Sicilian identity, set against the evocative Baroque backdrop of Scicli.
