Feast of St. Agatha in August 2025
Dettaglio
St. Agatha, patron saint of Catania, is once again bringing the city into festivity this summer.
The August 17 festivities, also called Mid-August, were instituted on the occasion of the return to the homeland of the Relics of St. Agatha, stolen as spoils of war by the Byzantine leader George Maniace. On the evening of August 17, 1126, after a full 86 years of “exile,” the Body of St. Agatha was welcomed back to Catania, where it could be venerated again.
The Agatine celebrations then will take place according to traditional customs from August 16 with the exposition of the Veil of St. Agatha in the Cathedral Basilica of Catania for the entire day, Mass and evening procession.
