80th Anniversary of the Allied invasion of Sicily
On the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the Allied invasion of Sicily, a series of meetings, forums and events will mark the memory of the so called Operation Husky.
From 27 to 29 March in Piazza Armerina, the International Forum for Peace, Security and Prosperity, celebrating this year its third edition, opens the calendar.
Other major events: May 9, the day of the devastating shelling of Palermo; on 7 and 8 July at the Ciminiere in Catania, Convention “Sicily in the Second World War” with the historians of the Countries most involved in the WW2 (Italy, United States, Canada, Great Britain, Germany).
From 10 July “walks” along the places of the invasion, provided with maps marking the points of interest, the testimonies of local insiders, and the route followed by the allied Forces, along the Sicilian coast, from Licata to Augusta.
All events are a sort of preliminary stage for a future widespread museum of the Sicilian Campaign of 1943.
On July 16, a great Peace event in Caltagirone.
