Parco Archeologico of Morgantina

Detail

In the heart of Sicily, among the hills surrounding Aidone, lies Morgantina, one of the most fascinating and well-preserved archaeological sites on the island.

An ancient city of Sicel origin, later colonized by the Greeks, Morgantina offers an extraordinary journey through Mediterranean history, far from the tourist crowds and ideal to visit in any season.

Walking among the ruins, you can admire the agorà, the Hellenistic theatre, patrician houses with mosaic floors, ceramic kilns, and public baths—all testimony to refined urban planning and a lively social life.
Still partly under excavation, the site offers a truly immersive experience of the past: here, time seems to have stood still.

To complete the visit, the Archaeological Museum of Aidone, located in the former Capuchin monastery nearby, houses some of the most famous masterpieces of the ancient world, such as the Goddess of Morgantina, the Acroliths of Demeter and Kore, and the Hellenistic Silver Treasure.

Morgantina is a destination that blends culture, nature, and silence: a perfect experience even in the off-season, when the colors of the hills and the clear light of the Sicilian hinterland create timeless emotions.
