Aci Castello

Detail

Aci Castello is one of the most evocative places on the Catania coast. The village is built around its famous Norman Castle, a lava stone fortress built on a rocky spur. Its scenic location and seascape make this town an unmissable stop in eastern Sicily.

Furthermore, thanks to its proximity to Catania and Aci Trezza, Aci Castello is an ideal starting point for exploring the entire Cyclops Riviera.

The Norman Castle: a thousand-year-old symbol on the lava cliff

The Norman Castle is the heart of the village. Built in the 11th century, it dominates the landscape with its imposing lava stone structure and offers spectacular views of the coast and the sea stacks of Aci Trezza.

Inside, it houses the Civic Museum, which collects archaeological and naturalistic finds related to the history of the area. In addition, the castle’s panoramic terrace offers one of the most fascinating viewpoints in eastern Sicily.

Black cliffs, crystal clear sea, and the Riviera dei Ciclopi

Aci Castello is famous for its basalt lava cliffs, shaped over time by the eruptions of Mount Etna and the waves of the Ionian Sea. These dark rocks create a unique landscape, ideal for swimming, snorkeling, or simply admiring the contrast between the black stone and the blue sea.

In addition, the Homeric legend of the Cyclops, linked to the sea stacks, further enriches the charm of the area, making this stretch of coastline one of the most iconic on the island.

Between seaside walks, Mediterranean atmosphere, and local flavors

The Aci Castello seafront is perfect for a walk at sunset, surrounded by the scent of the sea, traditional restaurants, and panoramic views that reveal the daily life of the village.
The local cuisine offers fresh fish dishes, granita, seafood, and typical products from eastern Sicily, providing a complete culinary experience.

Visiting Aci Castello means experiencing a place where history, nature, and Mediterranean traditions blend harmoniously.
