Marzamemi is a small seaside village not far from the famous “baroque queen” Noto. The town has beautiful colours, like the blue tones of its waters and the pure white of its sun-kissed houses. Marzamemi is an absolute must if you have decided to venture on a tour of eastern Sicily. Its warm climate makes it one of the most popular destinations all year round. The most crowded seasons are spring and summer, when the main square, Piazza Margherita, the handicraft shops (famous throughout the world), and the village streets are full of tourists.
If you want some shopping advice, don’t miss to buy the lattume and bottarga (tuna roe). The traditional cuisine enhances the authentic and distinctive flavours of fishing and fish products, often combined with the tomato from nearby Pachino. Marzamemi wins the traveller’s heart with its tuna fishery dating back to 1600. Here you can still see the moorings for yachts, the wrecks of ancient ships, the typical narrow streets and beautiful beaches.
There is a golden sandy beach on the Spinazza coast, and it is possible to reach it by walking. Those who can travel by car can drive to the nearby Vendicari Reserve, where there are the beaches of San Lorenzo and Calamosche, which are among the most beautiful in Sicily. In Avola and Marina di Ragusa we will find the places of Inspector Montalbano; from here we can start discovering the nearby Cavagrande del Cassibile, whose route is ready to give us other fantastic emotions.
Let’s not leave before having had another wonderful experience. In about 30 minutes, we arrive at Portopalo di Capo Passero and take a selfie of our visit to the Island of Correnti. Here the Ionian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea come together and seem to kiss.
