Bring Me the Future | Gibellina, Capital of Contemporary Art 2026

Detail

From 15 January to 31 December 2026, Gibellina, in the heart of the Belìce Valley, is the Italian Capital of Contemporary Art with the programme “Bring Me the Future”, a wide-ranging cultural project that focuses on the role of art as a driving force for social regeneration and a tool for participation.

Promoted by the Ministry of Culture and supported by regional institutions and local cultural organisations, the initiative transforms the town into an open laboratory, where exhibitions, artist residencies, performing arts, educational activities and research projects intertwine in a varied and constantly evolving programme.

The opening date of 15 January, the anniversary of the 1968 earthquake, takes on symbolic significance: from a place marked by memory, Gibellina now stands as an international example of rebirth through art. The project involves artists, curators and institutions from around the world, fostering a dialogue between past and present and building new shared visions of the future.

Contemporary exhibitions and installations occupy emblematic spaces across the city and the surrounding area, from Alberto Burri’s Grande Cretto to Baglio Di Stefano, and on to the architecture and squares of the new Gibellina, creating a widespread exhibition network that unites landscape, memory and experimentation. Alongside the exhibition projects, artist residencies and participatory initiatives actively engage citizens, students and visitors, transforming the cultural experience into a collective process. Theatre, music, cinema and performance bring the city’s venues to life, whilst conferences, meetings and study days make Gibellina a key centre for debate on contemporary art and its role in society.
