Palermo Ladies Open

From Karin Kschwendt, winner of the first edition in 1988, up to Irina-Camelia Begu, winner of the last edition, passing through all the doubles winning couples, the Palermo Ladies Open Hall of Fame is a review of great players who have contributed to the wonderful history of women’s tennis over the past thirty years.

Over 33 years since its beginning, Palermo Ladies Open has been a springboard for many young tennis players who have since established themselves worldwide.

Nine future Grand Slam champions have passed from the clay courts of Palermo Country Club, such as Mary Pierce (the first player to win the tournament for two years in a row between 1991 and 1992), Flavia Pennetta and Simona Halep, and six players who have since reached the first position of the world ranking like the legendary Justine Henin and the “Czarina” Dinara Safina.

The Palermo Ladies Open officially entered the WTA Tour in 1990.

From 15 to 23 July, the great women’s tennis is at home in Palermo!!!
