Notte di Zucchero 2026 in Palermo

Dettaglio

On 31 October and 1 November 2026, Notte di Zucchero returns to Palermo, an event celebrating the traditional Sicilian Feast of the Dead through performances, music, theatre and activities for adults and children. Now in its 14th edition, the initiative aims to keep alive a tradition deeply rooted in Sicilian culture, featuring sugar puppets, martorana marzipan fruit and the custom of giving gifts to children.

For two days, various locations across the city become venues for events and activities dedicated to memory and folk traditions. The programme on Saturday 31 October includes workshops and entertainment for children at Molo Sant’Erasmo, a pyjama party at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa and musical and theatrical events at the English Cemetery.

On Sunday 1 November, the day opens with a large intercultural parade, departing from Piazza Croci and arriving at the Teatro Massimo. Eleven international communities living in Palermo will take part, alongside folk groups, marching bands and children wearing pyjamas. A collective tarantella dance is also scheduled in Piazza Politeama, while the programme continues at the Teatro Massimo with the presentation of the children’s book La Rivolta dei Pupi di Zucchero (The Revolt of the Sugar Puppets), the traditional Sicilian puppet theatre performance Le farse di Nofrio e Virticchio and Scrigni di Memoria (Treasures of Memory), a micro-theatre experience dedicated to remembrance and memory.

Another highlight on Sunday is Coco – The Musical, staged at the Teatro Al Massimo. The event brings together different venues and artistic expressions, connecting Sicilian traditions with other cultures and offering activities for the whole family.

Events are free of charge, with the exception of Coco – The Musical, which requires an admission fee. For schedules, venues and further details, consult the full programme on the official Notte di Zucchero website
