Archaeological Exhibition “From Tauromenion to Tauromenium”

description

The archaeological and multimedia exhibition “From Tauromenion to Tauromenium. The Invisible City Between History and Archaeology” continues at Palazzo Ciampoli in Taormina, offering an immersive journey through the ancient history of the pearl of the Ionian Sea.

Promoted by the Naxos Taormina Archaeological Park, the exhibition tells the story of Taormina’s evolution from its Greek foundation to Roman times, featuring archaeological finds, statues, inscriptions, bas-reliefs, and cutting-edge multimedia technologies.

In addition to items from the Park’s own collections, the exhibition showcases unpublished materials from recent excavations and prestigious loans from cultural institutions such as the Salinas Museum of Palermo.

The exhibition path is spread over two floors with six thematic sections: from the Sicule necropolises to Roman public buildings, from sacred spaces to the ancient theatre, and a section dedicated to antique collecting.

Traditional archaeology meets digital innovation thanks to 3D reconstructions, video mapping, and interactive cartography that bring the ancient Tauromenion/Tauromenium back to life among the modern city’s streets.

An unmissable opportunity for those wishing to explore the history of Taormina with a contemporary lens, combining science, beauty, and cultural innovation.
