Feast of St. Calogero 2025
Detail
Every year, in the first half of July, Agrigento comes alive for the Feast of St. Calogero, one of Sicily’s most heartfelt religious celebrations. From July 6 to 13, 2025, the city pays homage to the “Black Saint” with a week full of events that weave together spirituality, tradition and folklore.
The most striking moment is the procession of the simulacrum of St. Calogero, carried on the shoulders of devotees along the streets of the historic center, from Via Atenea to Porta Addolorata. During the procession, it is traditional for the faithful to throw votive breads from windows, evoking the ancient gesture of charity toward the saint during epidemics.
The climax of the festivities is reached on the second Sunday in July, with the great morning procession and the evening fireworks display, known as “a maschiata di San Calò.” An unmissable event that offers visitors an authentic immersion in Sicilian culture and spirituality.
