Federico II – The European Dream

From July 4 to 6, 2025, Enna once again plunges into a medieval atmosphere with the Federician Days, an event that complements the European Federician Week held in May. The city comes alive with historical reenactments, tournaments, performances, and tastings, offering a unique experience in the heart of Sicily.

A rich program of history and tradition

On Friday, July 4, at the Tower of Frederick, the Crusaders’ Market opens at 6:00 PM, followed by the archer investiture ceremony at 6:30 PM. At 8:00 PM, master luthier Giuseppe Antonio Severini, registered in the Sicilian Region’s Intangible Heritage Register, will perform the concert “Sicily, Body and Soul in the Middle Ages” using medieval instruments.

On Saturday, July 5, the market continues from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to midnight. At 6:30 PM, in Piazza Duomo, the Palio of the Ancient Districts – 5th Regnum Siciliae Trophy will take place, organized by the Archers of Enna Castle. At 7:00 PM, Viale IV Novembre will host the Ancient Medieval Games with UISP Enna. At 8:30 PM, the imperial parade starts from Porta di Janniscuru with the symbolic arrival of Emperor Frederick II, followed by torch lighting and the procession to the Tower of Frederick. At 9:30 PM, the Magma Company will present a music and fire show.

On Sunday, July 6, at 8:30 AM, the 11th Maria SS. della Visitazione Trophy, an archery tournament, takes place at the Castle of Lombardia. The market continues from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM to midnight. At 11:00 AM, the 3rd Federician Wine Show will be held at the Urban Center, organized by FISAR Enna and Bottega Culturale Sicilia, including the Peppino Cefalù Award granted to the Arena family of the Decò Group. At 6:00 PM, from the Castle of Lombardia, the Grand Federician Historical Parade will march with Sicilian historic groups, drummers, flag-throwers, and jugglers. At 8:00 PM, at the Tower of Frederick, the city keys will be symbolically handed over to the emperor, and the winning district of the Palio will be awarded. The event ends at 9:30 PM with a fire show by the Magma Company.

A collective event thanks to local collaboration

The Federician Days are made possible by the collaboration of several local groups: the European Federician Week led by Giuseppe Castronovo, Bottega Culturale Sicilia directed by Antonio Messina, Officina Medievale with Ivana Antinoro, UISP Enna led by Riccardo Caccamo, the Funnurisi association with Stefano Milano, and FISAR Enna with Giuseppe Minissale. Historic districts A Chiazza, Beddivirdi, U Pupulu, Funnurisi, San Pitru, and Sarbaturi will compete in the 2025 Palio dei Quartieri.

During the Federician Days, Enna offers an immersive experience for visitors of all ages. The Crusaders’ Market features tastings of ancient drinks and medieval games for children by Laberna APS. The performances, reenactments, and cultural activities make this an unmissable event to discover Sicilian history and tradition.
