Ragusa Ibla: the Baroque heart of the city
Detail
Ragusa Ibla is one of Sicily’s most fascinating historic districts and an undisputed symbol of the island’s Baroque art. Rebuilt after the earthquake of 1693, it is a network of uphill alleys, panoramic stairways, and noble palaces that tell centuries of history. Its centerpiece is the magnificent Cathedral of San Giorgio, a masterpiece by Rosario Gagliardi, with its spectacular facade dominating the square. Strolling through Ibla means immersing yourself in a suspended atmosphere, among artisan shops, breathtaking views of the valley, and Mediterranean scents. It is an ideal place for those seeking authenticity, architectural beauty, and an almost cinematic dimension, made famous by the Inspector Montalbano series.
