Rabbit Island in Lampedusa
Detail
Isola dei Conigli (Rabbit Island) in Lampedusa is a small islet located in the bay of the same name on the southwestern coast of Lampedusa, in the Pelagie archipelago. This place is considered one of the symbols of the Mediterranean Sea for its unspoiled beauty, with fine white sand and crystal clear waters that fade into different shades of turquoise and blue.
The bay of Isola dei Conigli has often been recognized as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world according to various awards and traveler rankings, becoming a popular destination for tourists from all over the globe. It is an integral part of the “Isola di Lampedusa” Nature Reserve, established to protect the fragile ecosystem of the area.
Nature and biodiversity
The area is of great naturalistic value: it is an important resting place for migratory birds, and every year Caretta caretta sea turtles return here to lay their eggs on the beach, in one of the few regular nesting sites in Italy. The islet is also a nesting refuge for the yellow-legged gull and is home to species such as the Psammodromus algirus lizard.
Access and visits
To protect this unique environment, access is limited and regulated by time slots, with reservations required during peak season. The route to the beach requires a short walk along a nature trail, but it is rewarded with breathtaking views of the sea and the surrounding landscape.
Reservations for Spiaggia dei Conigli
To protect the natural environment and ensure a respectful experience, access to Spiaggia dei Conigli is regulated by shifts during the summer, with a maximum number of people per shift.
