Utveggio castle

description

Perched like a coral sentinel on the promontory of Monte Pellegrino, Utveggio castle has finally reopened its doors, returning one of its most iconic symbols to the city of Palermo.

Conceived by the visionary knight Michele Utveggio starting in 1928, this architectural gem was born from the desire to create a temple of hospitality: a luxury hotel that could rival the greatest European residences. Designed by architect Giovan Battista Santangelo, it blends the sinuous elegance of Liberty Style with the severity of Neo-Gothic.

The interiors welcome visitors with decorated coffered ceilings, large halls embellished with refined stuccos, and marble floors reflecting the light from the large windows. Walking along the corridors, you can admire period furniture, and once in the Salone delle Feste, you can grasp the profound soul of the project—a space curated in every detail to enchant high society, from the wooden boiseries to the monumental chandeliers.

Finally, the magic happens when looking out from its terraces; from here, the Conca d’Oro reveals itself in all its beauty, a mosaic of roofs and domes sloping gently towards the blue of the Gulf of Mondello.

Over the decades, these walls have lived a thousand lives: from a military refuge to a splendid cultural hub open to citizens and travelers.

To reach the castle, simply leave your car at Largo Sellerio; from there, comfortable electric cars will accompany you up the mountain’s hairpin bends.

Access, although free, requires a reservation that can be made through the institutional portal.
