Panarea

Among the must-see spots is Cala Junco, a natural pool enclosed by rocky walls and accessible via a scenic footpath. Not far away lies the prehistoric village of Capo Milazzese, with the remains of ancient huts dating back to the Bronze Age. Along the same route, you’ll come across Cala degli Zimmari, known for the distinctive reddish colour of its sand.

Much of Panarea’s coastline is high and rugged, which is why many coves are more easily reached by sea. A boat trip allows you to discover Basiluzzo, Bottaro, Dattilo, Lisca Nera and Lisca Bianca, the latter also chosen as the setting for Michelangelo Antonioni’s film *L’avventura*.
The island’s volcanic origins are still visible in the Calcara area, where vapours and gases escape from the rocks and the seabed, forming columns of bubbles visible from the surface.

Panarea is also popular with diving enthusiasts. Among the best-known dive sites are Scoglio Spinazzola, Scoglio La Nave and the wreck of the Llanishen, which sank near Lisca Nera in the early 20th century.

For walks along the island’s paths and through its more rugged terrain, it is advisable to wear comfortable shoes.
