The Casazza of Nicosia 2026

From 27 to 29 March 2026, the medieval village of Nicosia will once again be the setting for the evocative travelling sacred performance Casazza, one of the most fascinating events in Sicilian religious tradition.

This ancient event, documented as early as the 19th century and now revived thanks to the efforts of the local community and associations, re-enacts episodes from the Old and New Testaments through a grand choral narrative. Hundreds of participants in historical costumes bring biblical scenes to life as they parade through the streets of the historic centre, transforming the village into an open-air stage. With sacred narration, emotionally charged silences and meticulously detailed sets, the performance recreates the charm of a collective ritual that intertwines faith, memory and spectacle.

The Casazza of Nicosia invites visitors and worshippers to experience a journey through time, where sacred history takes shape among the ancient stones of one of Sicily‘s most evocative villages.
