Feast of St. Joseph – Contemporary Tradition 2026

Detail

From 15 to 22 March 2026, Salemi renews its appointment with the Feast of St. Joseph, an expression of identity that intertwines faith, community and cultural heritage in one of Italy’s most beautiful villages.

At the heart of the celebration are the traditional ‘Dinners of St Joseph’ and the votive altars of bread, authentic masterpieces of local craftsmanship. Richly decorated structures with citrus fruits, laurel branches and hand-shaped breads depict symbols of Christian tradition and nature, transforming houses and churches into places of devotion and wonder. On 19 March, the central day of the celebrations, Holy Mass, ‘L’invito dei Santi’ (The Invitation of the Saints) and the evocative recitation of the ‘Parti di San Giuseppe’ (Parts of St Joseph) mark a centuries-old ritual handed down orally, amid popular hymns and moments of sharing. Tastings, meetings, exhibitions and cultural initiatives accompany the entire week, enlivening the historic centre in a journey that combines tradition and modernity.

The Feast of St. Joseph in Salemi is an experience that engages the senses and the spirit, preserving the most authentic soul of Sicily through ephemeral art, devotion and hospitality.
