The relationship between Sicily and the horses is very deep; an example is the native Sicilian horse, bred in the Nebrodi and Madonie mountains, Palermo, Agrigento, and in Val di Noto; another example of horses is the Sanfratellano that is a wild horse on the Nebrodi mountains: it is a strong and robust race that seems to reflect the harsh nature of these lands and is also suitable for equestrian tourism.

The natural parks of the Nebrodi and the Madonie all the way to Palermo, along with the one of Mount Etna and Alcantara, are the perfect setting for horseback riding; you can even cover great distances, unthinkable if you had to walk.

Visiting hidden corners and passing from a natural setting to another in the same day, while enjoying the beautiful views in Sicily, is definitely an incredible experience. You should do it at least once in a lifetime! Many riding schools, horse stables and associations in these areas give us opportunities for a nice ride, in company of guides and expert instructors.

From walks of a few hours to hiking routes that can last about ten days. There is also opportunity for those who want to taste the famous gastronomic specialties of this region (black pig meat, provole cheese, mushrooms, battered frittuine of vegetables).

You can choose among riding schools, equestrian centers and riding associations spread throughout the island.

What about a  riding on the shore in Giardini Naxos?

Some riding schools are more sports oriented and offer activities for all disciplines, such as horse shows, dressage, vaulting, endurance etc. and they are spread throughout the area. There are courses for all levels, from beginners to competition, for all ages, from four years old riding ponies to ninety years old seniors riding horses, and for all budgets. In Palermo and Catania there is a great choice. But also in the areas of Siracusa and Trapani there are nice opportunities.
